Run! Last chance to see one million tulips in Belgium
Floralia exhibition at Groot-Bijgaarden castle ends this Sunday, May 7th
It’s Spring in our Flandres-Brabant region and Groot-Bijgaarden flourishes with our favourite seasonal delight. This town, only 20 minutes from Brussels center, is not only the base for our office but hosts one of the most beautiful castles in Belgium. This season makes the castle of Groot-Bijgaarden even more beautiful. It’s time when it hosts the Floralia exhibition, bringing to the historical venue plenty of colour, scents from thousands of tulips and tourists from all over the world to Belgium.
For this fourteenth edition, the staff planted more than one million flower bulbs under the guidance of the designer Maarten Bakker. The green 14 hectare green park is now bursting colours given by 500 different species of tulips, besides hyacinths, daffodils, blue grapes and other flower bulbs.
It’s easy to go there and get enchanted by carpets of wildflowers among centenarian trees and original flower beds; a heart made of red tulips; a garden maze in all the colors of the rainbow…
And the children will surely love this 6 meters wide flower peacock!
Continue wandering along the gardens and you will find a very cute garden maze created in 1748 by the designer Ferdinand-Joseph Derons, inspired by the typical French gardens of Vaux-le-Vicomte.
Next to this maze, you can also visit the renovated 1,000m2 greenhouse. There are many creations of ornamental flowers, flower art pieces and fantastic decorations. Every week, the flower spotlight is changed by top arranger Hans Danko.
If you get inspired by all this flower power, you also have the chance to add some exemplars to your own garden. Dutch and Belgian flower producers are in the entrance of the castle selling wonderful flowers for all pockets. But hurry up: the last chance to visit this Floralia exhibition finishes this Sunday, May 7th.
