All about the Beer tour – Brussels, Belgium.

Brewing in Belgium dates back at least the 12th century. Local abbeys brewed and distributed beer as a fund raising method. Besides, the relatively low-alcohol beer of that time was preferred as a safe option to drinking water. What are now traditional, artisanal brewing methods evolved, under abbey supervision, in the next seven centuries.

Today Belgian beers are known worldwide for their range of colours, alcohol levels and brewing methods. No wonder Unesco recognised the Belgian beer production as “Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity”. Today Belgium counts with 200 breweries producing approximately 1,500 beers, most of which are craft or speciality beers.

Do you know there are four main types of fermentation methods used in Belgium for brewing beer and some are really unique in Europe? You will discover rich wonderful details about the makings of lambic, trappist, faro, gueuze, kriek, and much more during your beer tour and tasting! 🍺
